Area rugs can be used in many ways, both practical and decorative. Although I’m going to give out some tips about how to decorate a living room with area rugs, they are only suggestion; it is all up to you to decide want to use any of it or not or you may come up with one that suit you the most. Depending on the area rug’s size, they can be used to create focal point to highlight something in a living room like table, chair, sofa, TV set, etc., with a smaller sized rug. Whereas a larger sized rug is often used to highlight an area in a house like living room, dining room, etc.
Once you have your new glass table in your home, you can think of creative ways to ’dress’ your table for dinner. Soften the look of the glass by running an organza strip down the middle for dinner parties in a contrasting colour, always adding flowers as a table centre. Alternatively stick with a modern look and use metal accessories with leather placemats – the only limit is your imagination!

Bright emerald or rich cocoa will perk up a tired room. You may choose to use an oval rug or a rectangular one. You may decide that a plush rug works better for your space than a tightly woven rug. Whatever your choice in texture or sizes you should be able to find a rug that you like in the color you desire. You can build your living room decoration around the colored rug. You might find accent decorations in similar or complimentary colors.
It is best to measure our living room space before we purchase anything from a shop; we would want to purchase a rug that fits our room space, not too big and not too small depending what we are going to use it. We can try to simulate the actual space consumed by placing a tape, book, bottle, etc., which indicate each corner of a rug. If we plan to place furniture on top, then we can use the same method to do so, especially when we want to place larger furniture like living room furniture like coffee table and sofa.
Main style – However your interior is to be eclectic and original, it is recommended to decide, which style will dominate. The main style should unify about 80 percents of interior. The rest of 20 percents can be used for your design experiments. When the modern style is the main one, colors of interior and furniture should mirror this fact. Impacts of other styles can be signalized with accessories like: lamps, mirrors, coffee table and decorations…And the same thing in case, when the tradition dominates – it should be marked decidedly in all interior.
